Verbal Fluency Across the Lifespan
How Does Category Naming Change Across the Lifespan?
About the Study
This study is exploring how our ability to find the right words changes as we age. It will look at how we perform on different word-finding tasks, which can tell us about subtle shifts in our thinking and memory skills throughout adulthood. The aim is to understand more about these changes as a natural part of aging.
Who Can Participate?
Participation in this study is by invitation only via NIHR BioResource. We are seeking healthy adults in the following age groups:
- 20-35 years
- 40-60 years
- 65-80 years
All participants must be fluent in English and have no history of neurological diagnoses.
What Will You Be Asked to Do?
If you choose to take part, you will be asked to complete a number of short verbal tasks online via a video call, along with a short reaction task and a free speech task. The session will take up to 75 minutes in total, and you can take breaks as needed. Everything will be completed remotely at a time convenient for you.
Why is This Research Important?
This research is important because it will help us better understand the natural changes in thinking and language that occur as we get older. By studying these changes, we hope to gain valuable insights that could contribute to the earlier detection of memory and thinking problems in the future. This knowledge could ultimately help in developing better ways to support healthy aging.
